Jamestown Library Summer Reading Program

Jamestown Library Summer Reading Program

This year’s national summer reading theme is “Libraries Rock” and offers a reading program with prizes for all ages including Preschool, Kids, Teens, and Adults. Patrons can pick up their reading log at any Greene county branch library beginning June 1st. The summer reading program runs from June 1st through July 31st.

Your preschooler can participate with you – pick up an activity log, have fun, and help your child build their pre-reading skills.

Kids and Teens get cool prizes by tracking and logging 8 to 18 hours of reading time and can earn additional time by attending a program at the Jamestown library.

The goal for adults is to complete 5 books for a prize, with additional reading earning entries for a grand prize drawing.

The Summer Reading season also includes a series of programs at the Jamestown library:

Pic A 3Kids can join us on Wednesday mornings in June and July at 10:30 for presenters and performers. This year’s program includes favorites Jeff Nicholas, “Crystal Clear,” Nancy Lockard, famous throughout Ohio as “The Turtle Lady,” “Mr. C. Presents Science,” and more…

Scheduled Teen programs include balloon sculpting, tie dye t-shirts, mosaic art, and music wire jewelry.

On July 25th the bookmobile will arrive and be open for a children’s book sale following the program by Jeff Nicholas.

Additionally, the Jamestown library will once again partner with Greeneview schools in offering a reading skill building program we call “Ready, Set, Read” to Greeneview schools incoming first grade class. Paired with a volunteer, students can build reading skills and get a head start for entering school in the fall.

The summer reading program is open and available to all patrons of the Greene County Public Library at every branch location. The Bellbrook, Cedarville, and Fairborn branches are also planning summer reading kick-off parties. Check the library event calendar at www.greenelibrary.info for a comprehensive listing of summer events at each location.

Pic A 2In addition to the services available at our seven locations around the county, the library remains “always open” through our website. Patrons can access a variety of digital collections electronically, as well as request and renew materials with their library account. Research databases provide our patrons access to articles, genealogical research, and a variety of informational categories from small engine repair to business and consumer resources. There are also electronic resources for children and teens.

Looking for a book, movie, or music that Greene County doesn’t own? Expand your search through interlibrary lending using Search Ohio, Ohio Link, or Worldcat. If it’s out there we can usually get it for you. You can also try Overdrive and Hoopla digital collections to borrow e-books and music directly to your computer or handheld device.

More recently, the library has made available wireless hotspots which can be reserved and checked out for those who don’t currently have home internet service. These connect through the cellular network and create an instant Wi-Fi connection for you to access in your home.

The Jamestown Community Library is located in the municipal building at 86 Seaman Drive, Jamestown and serves eastern Greene County including Jamestown, Shawnee Hills, and Bowersville. Ohio residents can sign up for a free library card at any Greene County Library location.
